Israel Sokeye

MD

Dr. Sokeye is a child, adolescent, and adult psychiatrist dedicated to delivering patient-centered, holistic mental health care. He is known for his compassion, clinical excellence, and deep commitment to improving mental health outcomes across the lifespan. He has a particular passion for supporting children, adolescents, and young adults with autism, recognizing that timely and thoughtful intervention lays the foundation for healthier, more fulfilling lives in adulthood.

As Co-Founder of Plymouth Psych Group, established in 2011, Dr. Sokeye has helped build a trusted, community-centered practice focused on accessible, high-quality mental health care.

Dr. Sokeye trained at some of the nation’s leading institutions, completing his psychiatry residency at Mount Sinai in New York and his Child and Adolescent Psychiatry fellowship at the University of Minnesota. His experience spans a wide range of settings—including outpatient care, school-based programs, and higher levels of care—allowing him to support patients across varying levels of need.

He brings extensive experience across a wide range of clinical settings, including county clinics, school-based programs, inpatient units, partial hospitalization programs, intensive outpatient programs, and outpatient care. This breadth of experience informs his systems-level perspective on both patient care and program development.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Sokeye serves as Adjunct Clinical Faculty at the University of Minnesota Medical School and has led statewide advocacy efforts as former President of the Minnesota Society of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. His commitment to advancing mental health care extends beyond the clinic into education, policy, and system-level improvement.

His work reflects a strong commitment to excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement in patient care.

John Nwabugwu

DNP, APRN, CNP, PMHNP-BC

Dr. John earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing with a minor in psychology, from Presentation College, Aberdeen, South Dakota in 2014. He obtained a Psychiatry and Mental Health Nurse Practitioner doctorate degree from The College of Saint Scholastica, Duluth, MN.

John has worked in acute psychiatric and medical psychiatric units for eight years at Mayo Clinic Rochester, Minnesota, and has treated children, adolescents and adults with various mental health concerns and disorders.

His vast experience in treating all ages gives him a unique opportunity to understand the family needs of people with mental health differences and puts him in a better position to care for adults, adolescence, children and parents with children with mental health issues. This is more true with his eight years of experience in caring for the elderly, which he smoothly transitioned to geriatric psychiatry.

John is a big proponent of dual therapy with psychotherapy and psychopharmacological interventions. His personal clinical philosophy is “person first”, which is a clinical philosophy that recognizes the person in the patient and seeks to help resolve the patient’s clinical presentations while isolating the person.
